Jo Crotty calls for Lovely Lane Post Office to re-open10.01.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Wed 1st Oct 2008 Jo Crotty, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson for Warrington South and councillor for Bewsey & Whitecross ward is calling for Lovely Lane Post Office to be re-opened. The post office on Lovely Lane was closed earlier this year along with five others in Warrington as part of the 2500 Labour Government mandated closures around the country. Since then it has emerged that nearby Folly Lane Post Office is closing on October 24th due to ill health leaving no local post office service for thousands of residents. "After October 24th the only choice for local people who need the services of the post office is to make the trip into the town centre," said Councillor Crotty. "For many people who do not have their own car, or who have problems getting about, this is going to be a serious problem. "Since 1999 Labour has closed 20 post offices in Warrington. We have gone from having 49 to 29 open branches. The town centre office has queues stretching out the door during peak times." "I have written to Post Watch to call for Lovely Lane Post Office to be re-opened and would urge anyone who feels we need a local post office in our area to do the same." "You can send them your views by writing to 'FREEPOST POSTWATCH' - you do not even need a stamp. Furthermore, if you want to know how else you can help you can email me at info@jocrotty.org.uk."
